Ozma tapped the side of the shell, listening to her finger tip echo into it's heart.

It has been sitting on her throne this morning. No one had seen who had brought it, no one knew where it came from.

When she held it up, she could hear the ocean, perfectly clear. Even, if she listened carefully, seagulls crying out over the surf.

It had to be a message from Queen Aquarine. She just didn't know what the message could be. Turning it again in her hands, she shook it, wondering if the message was tucked to deeply in the curls of the shell to escape on it's own.

This might require an adventure.

"That's a queer sort of thing to find on one's throne," Dorothy observed, head cocked to the side as she watched Ozma examine the shell. "I wonder how it got there. Do you think someone brought it?"

(Ozma, she could tell from her expression, already had an idea about the origins of the mysterious seashell.)

Dorothy took the shell from Ozma's hand. She peered into the opening, but all she could see was pearly pink curves--no, wait! There were markings scratched into it, just as the shell twisted 'round on itself. She couldn't read them--not when she could only see the tops (or perhaps the bottoms)--but maybe...

"I think I'll need some paper," she said, "and a stick of pencil."

Dorothy slipped the piece of paper into the shell, following it with the pencil which she proceeded to rub back and forth over the paper. "I think there's writing scratched into the shell," she explained. "But it's impossible to read with the rest of it in the way and I 'spect that was on purpose."

Once she'd finished, she handed the piece of paper with the rubbing on to Ozma so she could read it.

Dorothy blushed prettily at the compliment.

"Of course I'll come!" she replied. "Really, Ozma, you never need to ask about these things. It's been forever ago since I let you go on an adventure alone. Now, are we going t'represent Oz when we go or is just going to be two of us as us?"
